Dive Specialty Certifications

The PADI curriculum offers certification in various dive specialties. Unlike the single-dive Adventure Dives of the Advanced Open Water course, these dive specialties are multi-dive courses with classroom work and exams.

Deep Diver. The Deep Dive specialty course is designed for certified divers who want to explore depths to 130 feet. The course teaches you to plan these deeper dives, calculate your air consumption, and ascend safely.  To enroll, you IMG_9214.CR2must be an Advanced Open Water Diver and 16 years or older. Training consists of at least one class session and 4 boat dives. The course price is $350 for a private class; $250 for a 3-student class; and $200 for guests of The Hotel Cordova and Hostel. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.

Drift Diver. Relax and watch the underwater world drift past you, especially in a strong current. Learn to use the proper signaling devices to IMG_9202.CR2make sure that the dive boat can find you again. You must be an Advanced Open Water Diver and 16 years old. Training includes a classroom session and 2 boat dives. The course price is $200 for a semi-private class; $150 for a 3-student class; and $100 for guests of The Hotel Cordova. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.

Common Octopus

Fish Identification. This course introduces divers to the most common families and species of fish found off our South Florida beaches. Divers learn basic fish identification and scientific survey techniques. Training includes two classroom sessions and two shore dives. The price is $150 for a private class; $125 for a 3-student class; and $100 for guests of The Hotel Cordova. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.

Night Diver. Learn to safely explore the underwater world at night and to confidently acquire and use lights and other equipment. Training consists of one class session and four shore dives. You must be an Advanced Open Water Diver. The course price is $200 for a semi-private class; $150 for a 3-student class; and $100 for guests of the The Hotel Cordova. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.

Nitrox Diver. The Nitrox course teaches you to plan the optimal Enriched Air mixture for a dive, analyze your breathing gas and mark your tanks appropriately. You must be 10 years or older and have an Open Water Certification or higher to enroll in the Nitrox course. Peak Performance Buoyancy. The peak Performance BuoyancySpecialty Course will teach you how to alter your buoyancy with breathing techniques, make it easy to stay at a specific depth and hover effortlessly in one position. Adopt the proper dive posture and trim, and you will dive easier and more relaxed. To enroll, you must be an Advanced Open Water Diver. Training consists of one class session and 4 beach dives. The course price is $200 for a semi-private class; $150 for a 3-student class; and $100 for guests of The Hotel Cordova. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.

Search & Recovery. Learn various methods of conducting underwater searches and how to pick a method appropriate to specific circumstances. Then learn to safely recover objects from the ocean floor using lift bags and other appropriate devices. This course consists of 4 shore dives. The course price is $200 for a semi-private class; $150 for a 3-student class; and $100 for guests of The Hotel Cordova. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.

PICT0021Underwater Navigation. The Underwater Navigator Specialty Course teaches you to find your way underwater, where it is very easy to get disoriented but very important to know how to find you way back to your starting point. You must be an Advanced Open Water Diver to enroll. The course consists of two short class sessions and 3 beach dives. The course price is $200 for a semi-private class; $150 for a 3-student class; and $100 for guests of The Hotel Cordova. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.

Wreck Diving. Get the training that will enable you to safely penetrate and PICT0032explore a wreck. Learn what equipment you need and how to judge if a wreck is safe to penetrate. You must be an Advanced Open Water Diver and 15 years or older to enroll in the Wreck Dining course. Training consists of one class session and 4 dives on wrecks. The course price is $300 for a semi-private class; $250 for a 3-student class; and $200 for guests of The Hotel Cordova. This price does not include boat fees or gear rental charges.
